George the mouse helps beginner violin students learn to hold their violins flat. By helping George remain on the violin, children learn the importance of posture and the violin hold.

Meet Wendy

A funny thing happened while I was busy being a stay-at-home Mom. A friend in my church orchestra said the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra was always looking for violin teachers. I dismissed this out-of-hand because 1) I have a B.A. in French with a computer science minor, and 2) had never taught a day in my life. After some prayer and heel-dragging, a week or two later I thought, with a laugh, I’ll just keep going forward until I fall on my face. Lo and behold, they hired me in late fall 1999 and I’m still going forward! The best part is I love it! I truly adore seeing the lights go on in children’s eyes as I teach them to play violin. I have taught third graders in the schools since 1999 and private lessons to children as young as five since 2009 and I don’t regret a minute of it.

It’s amazing what gifts God places inside you that you are unaware of unless you take a leap of faith.

Teaching Children
I love teaching any method that works for my students.

I have taught the Suzuki Method with books, Essential Elements, New Directions, Pascale method and just recently Sassmannhaus. For young students, I love to keep lessons fun with toys enlisted to teach skills where reasoning doesn’t work. For example, I have a mouse named George who teaches how to hold your violin up flat.

Adult Lessons
Along the way, I learned that in addition to children, I also love teaching adults – it helps that they already know how to read! I enjoy using adults’ life-skills to my advantage. I just ask them to practice and they actually do it, without a fuss!

I think of my violin students and their families like my extended family. If you love music and are looking for a friendly atmosphere with some humor and encouragement sprinkled in, you have come to the right place.
